Jill Scott, the daughter of Joyce Scott in Philadelphia Pennsylvania was born April 4th in 1972. She was raised by her grandmother and mother. Scott is an all-only child. Scott attended her school at the Philadelphia High School for Girls, and then Temple University after graduating. She studied secondary education over there while working two jobs. She was hoping to become a high-school English teacher. It was impossible to realize the dream after studying for three years and working as a teaching assistant, she quit college. Her career began as a spoken-word artist and performing during poetry readings. Her next collaboration was with Amir Quest Love Thompson from The Roots. The two wrote You Got Me together. In Roots performance she came out as an artist. Then, she began collaborating with musicians like Eric Benet Will Smith or Common. Additionally, she gained experience as an actor in The Canada stage of the Broadway musical Rent. She was the first artist signed with Hidden Beach Recordings.
